15 December 2003 Ronaldo, Zidane and friends play in first Match Against PovertyUNDP Goodwill Ambassadors Ronaldo and Zinédine Zidane, along with such stars as England's captain David Beckham and Brazilians
Rivaldo and Roberto Carlos, raised more than US$800,000 for anti-poverty projects in developing countries at a soccer match
in Basel, Switzerland. Thanking the players, UNDP Administrator Mark Malloch Brown said: "By sharing their time and talents,
they have made a great difference towards winning the match against poverty." Actively supported by FIFA, the
match took place after the 2003 World Player Gala, during which Zinedine Zidane was awarded World Player of the Year. “It’s a real thrill to have my friends join me to raise awareness and take a stand against the deprivation that plagues
