UNDP supports voter registration in Bangladesh

Kemal Dervis visits a voter registration center in Rajapur, Jalakathi, Bangladesh
As part of Bangladesh’s drive to improve democratic governance, UNDP is working with the country's Election Commission to create a new voter registration list for Bangladesh's estimated 90 million voters ahead of national elections, expected to take place before the end of this year. The new lists will include digital photographs of each voter in a bid to help prevent fraud and the duplication of records.

UNDP Administrator Kemal Derviş toured one of these voter registration centres while on a three-day visit to Bangladesh this week.   “I had an opportunity to see with my own eyes the resilience of the people of Bangladesh in the face of considerable economic hardship” he said.
