UNDP in Ghana has set up a "communication club" to engage students journalists on development issues. 

Thanks to the club, the members will learn about the nature of development projects, the issues they try to tackle. They will also learn how to identify impacts and lessons learned.

The club will help the students to write about beneficiaries, including poor communities, and describe in detail how the projects are helping to change their daily lives, or how these projects could be improved. It will constitute an important educational tool on how to report on stories from the grassroots.

The club was launched by the Deputy Minister for Information, James Agyenim-Boateng.  During the ceremony, he said some of the core journalistic principles underpinning the communications profession were accuracy, objectiveness, fairness, comprehensiveness and the need to promote peace. He also hoped the articles that emerge from the club would become visible in national and international media.

The club is also expected to stimulate the debate on different approaches to development.

The Deputy Country Director of UNDP, Shigeki Komatsubara, said the initiative will help to improve the students' understanding of issues relating to human development and poverty reduction.

He said UNDP was ready to support the group with capacity development activities with the help of media professionals.
