13 November 2009 UN in action in El Salvador: recovering from Hurricane Ida
Over 1,800 homes have been damaged and more than 200 destroyed, leaving thousands of people living in over 120 shelters
around the country. The Government of El-Salvador appealed for international aid to ensure that essential supplies such
as food, water, hygiene kits, beds and blankets are provided to those whose homes have been destroyed or damaged. Responding
to this appeal, UN agencies are assisting with delivering water, food, cooking material, blankets and personal hygiene kits
to those most affected. In addition, the UN is working with the Salvadorian Authorities on assessing the incurred damages and coordinating the
much needed support. Over the last two days the UN Disaster Technical Management Team has deployed eight field missions
to assist with this task. For more information: |
