03 March 2010 Director of UNDP Africa discusses UNDP-China-Africa partnership in Beijing
Tegegnework Gettu, Director of RBA
and Associate Administrator of UNDP, met with Niu Dun, Vice Minister of China's Ministry of Agriculture on March 3rd 2010.
Niu Dun spoke highly of UNDP’s contribution to China’s poverty reduction and agricultural development efforts in rural
areas over the past 30 years.
He said he looked forward to UNDP’s continued support for the economic development
of rural China. The Minister also spoke of China-Africa cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Gettu said China
had made commendable progress in poverty reduction and rural agricultural development since the country kick-started its reforms.
He added that UNDP would continue to cooperate with China to help African countries to increase their agricultural production
capacity and achieve food security.
Khalid Malik, UNDP Resident Representative and UN Resident Coordinator and
Yao Xiangjun, the Deputy Director-General of China’s International Cooperation Department, were also present during the talks.
